Description

"Acetylcysteine or (NAC) is a derivative of cysteine with an actyl group attached to the nitrogen atom. NAC has some unique and powerful qualities and is mostly known for its powerful antioxidant effects and its amazing liver protecting effects.

NAC has also been recently shown to:

*Reduce inflammation as well as DNA oxidative damage
*Alleviate liver injury in people with lipopolysaccharide issues by reducing the secretion of pro-inflammatory cytokines, increasing the antioxidative capacity and enhancing energy metabolism.
*Increase levels of glutathione in the blood.
*Be a possible antifibrotic treatment for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis

NAC has been shown to have great cardio protective abilities which are believed to be related to the Brahma-related gene 1 (Brg1). Brg1 which is a key gene in inducing the expression of many important endogenous antioxidant enzymes and this is of great importance to have good cardio protection. Brg1 effects have been shown to be reduced in people with diabetes. Enhancement of cardiac Brg1 expression with NAC may be of great interest to those who have diabetes and wish to have greater cardio protection while dealing with their illness.

NAC is also commonly used in cough medicine because it is a great compound to break disulfide bonds in mucus and liquefy them. This makes it easier for ill and congested people to cough up excessive mucus. It is so effective at this that it is now commonly in use with people with cystic and pulmonary fibrosis, which commonly have abnormally thick mucus due to the illness.

NAC really has a lot to offer in not just its powerful antioxidant and liver protecting abilities but many other areas as well. It is NOT a supplement to be over looked.
