Melanotan II is a very interesting compound for our research. It induces the body to tan, increases sexual desire and libido as well as enhances erectile function. It also seems to play a role in fatloss.
While the initial goal in synthesizing MTI and MT II was to reduce the potential for getting skin cancer , the effects of this compound have obviously gone much farther than that. Researchers goal was to “imitate” the naturally occurring hormone a-MSH , what they ended up with in MT II is a compound 1000x more powerful than a-MSH.
Melanotan II was the second generation development of Melanotan I. The primary differences one would observe in their research is that Melanotan I will cause the body to tan without exposure to the sun (as does MT II) however it does not induce the sexual desire and libido increase that MT II does. A side note the peptide pt-141 , known for its powerful effect on sexual desire and erectile response , is a direct metabolite of MT II.
As far as fatloss this occurs via several mechanisms. The melanocortin system is a signaling system for leptin and insulin. Leptin suppresses appetite. Insulin effects on weight are well documented. The ultimate effects of MT II that lead to fat loss are: Reduced appetite, increased lipolysis, increased fatty acid oxidation, and improved insulin sensitivity.
Talk about a compound with several benefits desirable to our research! The tanning , fat loss and sexual enhancement benefits of this compound make it quite the popular compound for many researchers.
